The Artist
Merrilee Cleveland
Merrilee's work is often inspired
by ancient art, mythology and folklore.
As a contemporary artist she believes
that our collective memories should
be honored in our contemporary visions.
Resulting in work which has been described
as both ancient and contemporary
at the same time.
Merrilee grew up on the beautiful Oregon
Coast where her father ran a Five Star Resort.
She was always creating art. Her mother,
a creative sort, encouraged and provided
for her artistic expression.
Merrilee attended The Chicago Academy for the Arts,
a high school for the performing and visual arts,
and graduated with honors.
In 1992, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Where after studying many avenues of
expression found sculpture to be her passion.
